PURPOSE OF LIFE

Updated: Mar 10

Everything that exists, every being, whether living or non-living, has a purpose of existence in the life we live. For example, the stomach’s task of digestion, the heart’s task of pumping blood, the task of red blood cells (erythrocytes) carrying oxygen are all part of the bodily functions of humans. The stomach, heart, blood cells, and even substances like cholesterol, insulin, and serotonin—all of them work to sustain the life in the body.

We are also parts of the infinite life, the universe, and existence, which we cannot perceive with our limited minds, often referred to as the unity of existence (vahdeti vücut). Just as cells form the body and serve the body they create to sustain its existence, we too create the universe and serve it.

But I wonder…

Actually, if we remained as we were when we were born (or more precisely, if our minds remained as pure as when we were born), the answer would be yes. However, for most of us, the answer is no. Born with a conceptual mind, we turn our minds into a heap of concepts. As if that’s not enough, we categorize these concepts, actions, and behaviors into right and wrong, good and bad, what should be done and what shouldn’t. We are conditioned to unconsciously perform the actions in the good/right category. When we are conditioned, we sever the connection with our true self. As a result, we are unable to receive the message of the actions that are required for the continuation of existence from the divine because of the parasites/positive-negative conditioning in our minds. Moreover, we mistakenly believe the parasites bred by mental conditioning are the real messages and we act according to them.

For example, when the universe/life/creator/divine tells me to go right, I think it would be better to go left, and conditioned to believe that left is the right direction, I go left. The actions I will perform upon turning right will take me to the most perfect level for me and all existence. But instead, I take a left turn and end up on a dead-end street, where I face many obstacles and end up going nowhere. Not only do I not arrive at my destination, but I also blame the creator for my fate, cursing the divine for the destiny it has assigned me. I become angry with the supreme creator for the victimhood I’ve created.

For instance, imagine a fish being promised an ocean of infinite beauty, telling it to follow a certain path, avoid certain people, and perform specific actions to eventually reach the ocean of heaven and eternal life, living a magnificent existence. But the fish, enamored with the bird, has conditioned itself to believe that flying is better than swimming. It chooses to act according to the thoughts in its mind. The result is a futile effort, a useless struggle with life, followed by despair... The fish not only fails to fly but also loses its life. Then, it says, "This must be my destiny, what else can I do?"

Does this scenario sound familiar to you? I have experienced the life of the fish many times. By overcoming difficulties and engaging in unnecessary struggles with life, I used to think that if I achieved the goals I believed in and had been conditioned to believe were correct, I would be happy. As the fish, I kept trying to fly, which was contrary to my creation, until I turned toward the divine and listened to my heart.

Because the creator already knows the most perfect possibilities that have happened and will happen, and it brings them to our hearts to guide us. When we listen to it, things progress easily. After that, it’s like the fish reaching the ocean and gaining freedom.

If you’re wondering why things aren’t progressing, why you’re in conflict with life, why you keep encountering the wrong people, or why you’re facing financial struggles, it means you’ve deviated from the path the creator has laid out for you.

How to get back on track will be in my next post.
