SOMETIMES, A PERSON WANTS TO HOLD ON.
Until that moment when holding on becomes harder than letting go…
Sometimes, a person wants to hold on.
To their joys, their pains, an emotion, a thought, an ideology, a living being, another person… They hold on to the extent of the meaning they assign to it…
Until they truly realize that the meaning is one they themselves have given…
Sometimes, a person wants to hold on.
Because holding on serves their deepest instincts,
Because it fulfills their need to "belong"…
Sometimes, a person wants to hold on.
Because they believe they "exist" through what they cling to…
Because they believe that if they let go, they will "cease to be"…
And this is precisely why letting go is so difficult.
Because when a person feels that letting go means dying and disappearing, they are absolutely right.
With every release, they let go of a piece of their "self,"
And in doing so, they kill a part they once mistook for their "self."
This is the price of true freedom.
