ASTROLOGICAL FORECASTS FOR DECEMBER

Updated: Mar 10

In astrology, the Sun and the Moon—often referred to as the two luminaries—hold undeniable significance. The Moon represents the feminine principle, while the Sun embodies the masculine principle, both of which exist in everything. In classical astrology, the strength or weakness of the Moon, like other planets, is also influenced by its position relative to the Sun. As Hermes Trismegistus stated, although the absence of one leads to the absence of the other, the Sun ultimately has the final say and holds dominion.

Let's start by examining the Sun’s placement. Until December 21st, the Sun will be in Sagittarius, a mutable sign, which means that vital energy will be scattered and expansive. Sagittarius' core traits—philosophical thinking and foresight—will be especially crucial for envisioning future possibilities. Therefore, before stepping into the new year, December is the perfect time to set future-oriented goals.

On December 21st, as the Sun moves into Capricorn, the Winter Solstice (Solstitium) will occur. The Winter Solstice means that the Sun reaches 0° Capricorn on the ecliptic and remains at its highest southern declination without shifting. With the Capricorn season beginning, it's time to set aside optimism and start using our available resources in a practical way to plan for the future.

December’s Key Lunar Events:

This month, we will experience two New Moons and one Full Moon. When initiating significant events, it is generally advisable to avoid the day before and after a New Moon or Full Moon for better outcomes.

– December 1st: New Moon in Sagittarius– December 15th: Full Moon in Gemini– December 31st: New Moon in Capricorn

Now, let’s take a closer look at the details.

On December 1st, a New Moon at 9° Sagittarius will occur, conjunct Antares, a fixed royal star known as the "Watcher of the West." Antares is associated with military success, strategic intelligence, alertness, and the potential for rising to high positions—but it also warns of the risk of downfall. It can also bring success in sports.

This New Moon will primarily impact Sagittarius, Gemini, Pisces, and Virgo. The strong fire element present in the chart suggests an increased willingness to take risks, so we should be mindful of overextending ourselves. The positive aspect between the New Moon and Mars, the planet of courage and action, indicates that we will be fearless in taking risks and engaging in challenges. During this period, we may feel drawn to different cultures, new adventures, and unexplored territories. Sagittarius is curious about places it hasn’t been and people it hasn’t met. While Gemini gathers information, Sagittarius processes it into wisdom. However, this means we may not be very focused on our immediate surroundings or daily affairs.

For the next 14 days, we can expect new beginnings related to ethics, justice, higher education, religion, philosophy, and international matters. We may feel an urge to learn, expand, and grow in these areas, or take bold steps and calculated risks in relation to them. However, there are also challenges and warnings that come with this New Moon.

Challenges and Cautions

  • The square aspect between the New Moon and Saturn suggests potential limitations and obstacles in the themes mentioned above, requiring us to act with patience and caution.

  • The ruler of the New Moon, Jupiter, is in retrograde, forming a tense T-square with Mercury (also retrograde) and Saturn. This indicates a high risk of miscommunication, misinformation, and document-related errors, especially around December 4th and December 7th.

  • Impulsivity and risk-taking should be managed carefully. Instead of starting multiple projects at once or making reckless moves, it’s better to focus on one structured and strategic goal to minimize potential losses.

  • International travel, legal matters, and bureaucratic processes may become more complicated during this time.

  • Sagittarius amplifies enthusiasm and optimism, but this also means radical ideologies and fanaticism may become more prominent. It’s important to stay grounded and avoid extreme beliefs.

Health & Medical Astrology

In medical astrology, Sagittarius rules breathing and respiration. During this period, we may experience increased sensitivity in our respiratory system, so breathing exercises can be highly beneficial. Sagittarius also governs:

  • The lower lungs

  • The lower back

  • The lower spine

  • The hips and thighs

  • The posterior pituitary gland

Health issues related to these areas may arise.

Additionally, Mars will officially begin its retrograde motion on December 7th. If you’re planning a surgical operation, unless it is urgent or life-threatening, it is best to postpone it until after February 24th, when Mars goes direct again.

On December 15th, a Full Moon at 23° Gemini will occur, marking the time when we will begin to see the results of the events initiated around December 1st. This Full Moon will be conjunct Alnilam, a fixed star associated with short-lived fame, wealth, romantic challenges, and hunting. According to astrologer Bernadette Brady, Alnilam is not about sudden success but rather long-term achievements built through perseverance and solid effort. It also signifies deep spirituality, passionate love, marital harmony, and luck.

This Full Moon will primarily influence Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces, and Virgo. It will highlight our relationships with close relatives, neighboring countries, domestic transportation, digital and social media, and sensational news. Gemini is a sign that deals with data collection and communication, so this Full Moon suggests a period where we will be gathering and revealing important information.

Key Themes of the Full Moon

  • December 20th is an especially favorable day, as the sky will be offering positive support. This would be a great time to make important decisions.

  • Avoid distractions and scattering energy. Gemini tends to juggle multiple tasks, which can lead to mental overload. Staying focused is crucial.

  • The square aspect between the Full Moon and Neptune, peaking between December 15th and December 18th, can create confusion, illusions, and deception. It may be harder to see the full picture, so double-check all information before making decisions.

  • Mercury, the ruler of this Full Moon, will go direct on December 15th. This means that errors, delays, and miscommunications that have occurred since December 1st will gradually be corrected. As Mercury speeds up, things will become clearer.

  • Given that both the New Moon and the Full Moon are in mutable signs, situations may change rapidly. Decisions made earlier in the month may need to be revised or reconsidered.

  • Mercury’s tense aspect with Saturn around December 27th suggests a stressful time for commerce, communication, and transportation. Be cautious with contracts, negotiations, and travel plans.

Health & Medical Astrology

  • This period may bring hearing-related issues. It’s also crucial to pay close attention to the information we receive, as things may not be as they seem. Avoid jumping to conclusions too quickly.

  • In medical astrology, Gemini governs:

    • The central nervous system

    • All tubes and ducts in the body

    • Capillaries

    • The upper lungs

    • Collagen production

    • The cervical spine (neck vertebrae)

    • The clavicle (collarbone) to the fingertips

If your birth chart is activated by this Full Moon, you may experience sensitivity or issues in these areas over the next two weeks.

On December 31st, the New Moon at 9° Capricorn marks the farewell to 2024. This New Moon will be conjunct Facies, a fixed star known for its sharp perception and visionary insight. Facies acts as a magnifying glass, helping to discover dimensions of knowledge and enhance imagination. It also carries healing abilities and gives interest in fields like archaeology, agriculture, geology, and mining.

This New Moon will have a strong influence on Capricorn, Cancer, Aries, and Libra. Since it occurs in a cardinal sign, it will bring fast-moving situations that require us to take initiative. With an emphasis on the earth element, material matters will take center stage, making investments and financial discussions more prominent. Capricorn is about practicality, responsibility, and resourcefulness, pushing us to make solid career decisions. Over the following 14 days, we will focus on discipline, structure, and long-term planning.

Key Themes of the New Moon

  • Strong financial focus: Capricorn rules resources, career advancement, and long-term investments.

  • New beginnings in career & business: This New Moon will encourage us to restructure, strategize, and make disciplined moves.

  • Earth-element dominance: Practicality and real-world concerns will take precedence over emotions.

  • Supportive aspect from Saturn: The ruler of this New Moon, Saturn, forms a harmonious aspect, ensuring that any new plans will be built on a solid foundation. This is an excellent time for initiating new projects, reorganizing systems, and strengthening personal or professional structures.

  • Recycling & rebuilding: The energy of this New Moon is excellent for restoring, renovating, or repurposing things in our lives, whether in a physical, emotional, or professional sense.

Worldly & Collective Impact

In mundane astrology, Capricorn governs governments, financial sectors, economists, engineers, and corporate structures. This suggests that significant changes or new policies may emerge around economics, regulations, and business strategies.

Health & Medical Astrology

In medical astrology, Capricorn rules:

  • Teeth, bones, joints, skin, nails, and cell walls

  • Knees (especially knee joints)

  • Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD/reflux disease)

During the 14 days following this New Moon, it's wise to:

  • Pay extra attention to dental health

  • Be mindful of joint and knee issues

  • Adjust your diet to prevent digestive discomfort

This New Moon presents a powerful opportunity to build long-term stability and commit to serious goals.

Wishing you love & health,Betül Mastar Çalık
