AFFIRMATION

Updated: Mar 12

People who prioritize personal development and are curious about themselves will first encounter affirmations as a key tool in this field. At first, many people approach affirmations with skepticism, asking, "Come on, is life really that simple?" or "Are you serious? Can this really work?" However, affirmation is one of the most widely used methods for self-transformation.

The purpose of affirmations is to reprogram the subconscious mind because our subconscious shapes our reality. In other words, whatever image exists in our subconscious, we end up living within that picture.

As I have quoted in my previous writings, Mahatma Gandhi’s words serve as a guiding principle:

"Watch your words, for they will become thoughts.Watch your thoughts, for they will become emotions.Watch your emotions, for they will become actions.Watch your actions, for they will become habits.Watch your habits, for they will become values.Watch your values, for they will become character.Watch your character, for it will become your destiny."

Just as riding a bicycle becomes automatic once learned, our character will automatically shape our destiny.

But is something so complex really that easy to change? Can we simply replace years of negative self-talk like "Nothing ever goes right for me" with "Everything flows effortlessly for me"? Would it be too naive to tell a mind accustomed to sadness, "I am healthy, I am light, I am love"? If sadness, tension, and anxiety were truly sustainable states, why do we get sick? Why doesn’t melancholy persist all day long?

So, until when? The answer lies in projecting the mental image in our conscious mind onto our subconscious mind.

By the way, I highly recommend İsmail Bülbül’s subconscious reprogramming therapy, which works like resetting a computer, allowing our vital functions to operate as they should. It truly works wonders.

When is the best time for affirmations to be most effective? As many books suggest, the ideal time is just before sleep, when mental activity slows down and we are more receptive to change. Other good moments are when we are alone and can fully focus.

Speaking of affirmations, I also want to touch on bad habits. The reason people struggle to quit bad habits is often due to a lack of awareness, fear of stepping outside their comfort zone, a failure to exercise willpower, or fear of facing reality.

Why would someone knowingly live in a way that gradually deteriorates their health? Why would anyone willingly give up their freedom? The truth is, we can use affirmations to regain control over our lives, reprogram our minds, and break free from bad habits.

Let’s not forget, the words we repeat to ourselves shape our subconscious. For example, instead of dwelling on the suffering caused by bad habits, we can visualize ourselves sharing joyful meals and laughter with loved ones, free from those habits. We can dream about the future we desire and put into words the kind of person we need to become to make that vision a reality.

Instead of focusing on lack, we can affirm abundance. Instead of sorrow, we can affirm joy. Instead of giving up on life, we can affirm being reborn anew each day.
